"De Willemijn" in Appingedam
Description
This beautiful old ship from 1935, recently restaurated, is moored on a landing stage in Appingedam.
In the middle of the picturesque little town you can have a special holiday on this ship, The Willemijn. The Willemijn has a wheel-house with round seats and through the windows you have a nice view on the canal.
You can use the garden where the ship is moored and there are seats where you can have dinner or take a sunbath.
Downstairs in the Willemijn is the dining room with two benches and a table. Seperated by sliding doors there is a little kitchen and on the other site there is a toilet and a large wardrobe. The kitchen has cutlery, tableware, stew-pans and other requirements. In the front of the ship is the bedroom with two bunk beds, suitable for four persons. In the ship are towels and there is linen. When there is a little fresh summer evening you can use the heater.
You can park your car in the vicinity of the ship. There is a radio. For a tv and a portable dvd player you can ask the owner. You can use a cano for free, bicycles you can hire for € 7,50 per day. You have to order the bikes in advance.
The Vicinity
Appingedam is famous for its historical centre with their hanging kitchens.
There are a lot of magnificent immemorial monuments; for instance the Nicolaï Church is from the year 1225, the old city hall of 1630. The museum "Stad Appingedam" is situated in one of the oldest houses in Appingedam, it was built in the 13th century.
You can cook dinner yourselve on the Willemijn, all necessities are available on board. In Appingedam there are also several restaurants and pubs.
Outside Appingedam there are endless landscapes, variated with wonderful farms and little villages, beautiful bridges, windmills and a lot of water: authentic Holland. You can hike, bike of take the car to see the most charming province of the Netherlands.
By car you can visit Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre Lenie 't Hart, Walibi Attraction park 1,5 hrs) or Slagharen Attraction park (1 hr). You can visit the isle of Schiermonnikoog for a day or the Tea Factory (tea museum) with a tea room. You can take a ship to Germany or by car.
