Sleeping in a turf hut
Description
Enjoy the romantics of the old days with a lodging at Turf hut Nijdams Erf.
This for Holland unique lodging facility was created for interest in old buildings.
Inspired by a similar turf hut in outdoor museum of Schoonoord, building started in 1994.
The building style is authentic for the 1930's. You can read by oil lamp or candles and heat by a wood stove.
You drink from cups from the old days and pump water outside out of a stone pump. A romantic moment can be relived at a stone fireplace.
An authentic duck pool, a bee garden as well as 'Drentse hoenders' (ducks) in their cages and a stork nest complete the picture. You sleep in a two persons cupboard bed.
The "hoessie" is a toilet and washing facility.
You are allowed to bring your pets if the pets can be controlled well.
The turf huts
Turf hut 1:The 2 person hut is located in a forest in the middle of pastures. The entrance is a small door, leading directly into the living room. Authentic decorated and furnished with oil lamp, candleholders, stove, table with four chairs, doll cradle, and several other pieces of the time. The two person cupboard bed is an original.
The supply cellar is arranged as a museum with conserved fruits, eggs and dried meat. In the corner cupboard you can find your camping equipment: dishes, cups, pots and pans.
On a 3 ring gas stove you can heat the food you have brought with you. You are allowed to make a fire outside, chop wood en enjoy all the romantic spots. You can get water from a stone well. The toilet 'hoessie' is inside, the shower and washing facilities are outside.
To complete it all you can find a meadow with old farm equipment, a pond, poultry unit, a sitting bench and antique chairs and a storks nest. The guest register offers a list of hundreds of satisfied costumers.
Turf hut 2:
In addition to turf hut no. 1, this one was finished in October 2002.
This hut is slightly larger than the first one (1,5 x) and has two cupboard beds.The old wood stove with copper kettles and the beautiful stone ridge beyond is something special. Granny seems to just have left his old rocking chair.
A gas stove heats the hut and a two ring stove provides for cooking of the food you brought.
Two cupboard beds are placed opposite each other and contain a night mirror and warm water bottles.
You get your water in the kitchen. The roof is covered with turfs. Outside is a working well.
