To sleep in a railway carriage
Description
This is a very special lodging: sleep in a converted railwaycarriage!
As an art project 'Atelier van Lieshout' transformed a goods carriage from Museumrailway STAR to a pioneer carriage, in honour of the peat pioneers, exploiters of the peat moor landscape.
The romantic pioneer carriage with number G225, which was transformed by Atelier van Lieshout to 'STAR carriage', was originally a goods carriage of the 'Gbs' type.
The carpentry of the carriage was completely replaced, ventilating shafts were provided with double glassed windows.
The outside of the exterior of the 'Gbs' is preserved while the interior got a complete transformation.
Equipment STAR carriage
- four person bed;
- 1 single bunk bed;
- blankets;
- sheets and pillows;
- towels, washrags, dish towels and dishcloths;
- dinette;
- wood-stove included firewood;
- kitchen unit: water supply tank + tap, tub, dishbowl + soap, tableware + cutlery for 4 to 6 persons, pans, gas burner with 2 rings + gas cylinder; garbage can, brush, brush and pan, matches, ash trays;
- 2 petrol lanterns + oil;
- mirror;
- shower: water supplytank (not heated) + shower, showerbrush, sponge, soap;
- old-fashioned toilet + straw, toiletpaper.

Prices are valid for a overnight stay on the railway yard in Stadskanaal.
For accomodations on different places along their rail track the STAR calculate an hourly rate of € 36,30 for transporting the carriage. Stations along the rail track: Musselkanaal, Veendam, Stadskanaal and Bareveld.Combine a overnight stay in the Star carriage with one of the operating days of the STAR train. Take a ride on the historical train, pulled by a steam locomotive. On the STAR website you can find their timetable.
