Description
In the beautiful village Onderdendam you can sleep in an extraordinary bed&breakfast:
the remains of an authentic Dutch windmill, built in 1855.
Spending the night in one of the comfortable and stylishly decorated suites on the grain and grinding floors of the windmill is a unique experience. The second floor of the mill was originally the grain floor, which was used for the storage of grain and flour. The third floor of the mill is the grinding floor where the flour, which came from the stone floor above, was assembled.
Both floors are arranged as comfortable and spacious apartments, each with their individual atmosphere. The apartments have a living and a sleeping area as well as a bathroom and kitchenette and are suitable for a maximum of 4 people. The living rooms offer a view of the 'Boterdiep' canal in front of the mill. A magnificent 360 view of the surrounding landscape can be experienced from the platform of the mill, which is accessible from the fourth floor.
In the Hunsingo Mill they serve excellent breakfast and lunches. In the restaurant or on the terrace you can choose from a wide wide range of coffee and tea. In the mill you can have a wonderful supper or dinner.
On the third attic of the mill there is an exhibition of the history of shipping in Onderdendam. In the mill there are bicycle, walking and canoe routes available, and other tourist information. You can rent canoes in Onderdendam.
The Vicinity
The Hunsingo Mill is an ideal base for exploring the region called 'the Hoogeland'.
The region offers great walking, cycling and sailing opportunities. Enjoy the great landscape with its canals, green nature, castles and old farms, but also the ancient villages built on small hills to protect themselves against the rising water in earlier days. Information about bike-, walk- and canoe routes and rental of canoes and bicycles is available at the mill. The village of Onderdendam is ideal situated between the city of Groningen and the northern coast. Day-trips to Groningen or one of the islands close to the northern coast are just some of the many possibilities.
Other attractions in the neighborhood are the seal crèche in Pieterburen, the 'Hoogeland' museum in Warffum, Abraham's mustard museum in Eenrum and the tea factory in Houwerzijl. The surrounding area of Onderdendam also has several great restaurants where you can enjoy a good dinner.

3 Nights for 1 person: € 88,- per night, inclusive breakfast.
