In the middle of the fortress Bourtange in The Netherlands are the fortress lodgings. Twelve beautiful rooms, several rooms have cupboard-beds. Scout the romantic fortress town of Bourtange or discover the beautiful landscape of 'Westerwolde' with it's nature and forests. This is your chance to be a temporary fortress occupant! The beautiful fortress and bicycle and walk routes will give you an unforgettable vacation in this almost undiscovered part of Holland. You can canoe, fish or just enjoy nature. The countryside offers many possibilities for trips.
The rooms
There are three types of rooms: Soldiers Rooms, Captain's Rooms (just a little bigger then soldiers rooms) and a Wedding suite. There are eight rooms with cupboard beds and four with a normal bed. Don't be scared...your won't have to sleep sitting up as in the old days. The beds have normal proportions (see the picture below). What can be more romantic? The rooms all have shower or bath, modern sanitary facilities, telephone, ISDN, a sitting corner and television.Facilities
There is stylish breakfast room "De Gasterije".
The fortress' reception is located at the information desk of the fortress of Bourtange.Next to the reception is the à la carte restaurant, a nostalgic candy store, a pub, a clock workshop, a little grocery shop and some souvenir shops.
In the information centre you can find a bank, a post office, regional information and a bicycle rent shop (just for guests of the fortress).
In all of the twelve rooms are information folders and maps with regional information.
There are several nice arrangements possible.
Specialties
Prices include a breakfast buffet and cards for the four musea on the fortress' grounds. The musea are opened daily between April 1st and November 1st.Pets are allowed in the fortress Bourtange. Prices for dogs are € 5,50 a night, including food, water and a sleeping basket.
