A very special lodging: an abbey magically converted to a beautiful hotel!
Hotel Abbey 'de Westerburcht' is situated in Westerbork (near railway station Beilen) in the middle of the province Drenthe, on short distance of Assen, Emmen and Hoogeveen.
Hotel de Westerburcht has a reception, a restaurant, a nice hotel bar, various closed verandas, a terrace and an elevator. Solarium and bicycles for separate fees.
The hotel is very qualified for older people and disabled because of adjusted rooms on the ground floor and the elevator.
Hotel Abbey de Westerburcht has been extended per April 2001 with cosy theme restaurant Grand Café la Trappe. It is in tune with the ambiance of the Abbey 'de Koningshoeven' in Berkel-Enschot, the only place in Holland where 'trappistenbier' (special beer) is being brewed by monks. These beers you get in the hotel bar from tap or bottle. In the Grand Café you will go back in time; leaded windows, murals, torches, oak-wood floors, plasterwork ceilings.
The theme of the Grand Café comes really to expression in the task of the monks. There is a monk behind the bar, also the host of the theme parties will be a monk. The menu cards of Grand Café La Trappe are based on the history of the monks. The theme restaurant can contain about 100 persons, and is therefore perfectly suited for member or closed parties.
The rooms
The best rooms are of course the monastery rooms. These theme rooms are in detail furnitured in monastery style: torches, iron grips, wood carved furniture etc. The rooms have two box spring beds, a desk, a living corner, a shower, a toilet, television, alarm clock and telephone.Apart from 16 monastery rooms there are 2 one-person rooms, 12 two-person rooms, 5 luxury rooms and 2 family rooms.
